10 Best Strategy Games for Android
Freeways For Android
Freeways is one of those games that can be played in short bursts but has enough depth to keep you coming back again and again. The point of Freeways is to create highway systems with limited resources, which sounds like a boring, serious Endeavor.
And its kind of is—but it’s also completely addicting, even though you might not realize it at first. While Freeways will run on slower Android devices without much lag (my VIVO S1 ran it just fine), if you have a newer device, you’ll get a much smoother experience and faster performance with some nice visuals too.
This side-scrolling, pixelated game is one of our favorite new Android games for a few reasons. Dead Cells stars an undead man named the prisoner (as in Frankenstein’s monster) who must fight his way through stages littered with weapons and upgrades to take on a mysterious boss. The controls are fluid and intuitive, which we appreciate.
This is one addictive game for your Android!
Reigns: Game of Thrones
By far one of my favorite games released so far in 2018, Reigns: Game of Thrones is a game that involves tons of strategy. You’ll be ruling a kingdom by making decisions to keep people happy or make them angry—but you must make choices quickly because each decision has a short timer before it disappears. If you pick something that makes everyone angry, your reign is over, and you die… but if you rule with honour and integrity your reign will live on!
This game does a great job of introducing new challenges in ways that don’t get stale—plus it has a ton of scenarios based on characters from Game of Thrones! You can play as Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister and more. The graphics aren’t always pretty, but they make up for it by keeping you addicted with some intense choices and gameplay.
Plants vs. Zombies 2
The best game on all platforms, from board games to card games to video games. The greatest strategy game of all time and with a meaningful name for some. This is a game about plants killing zombies. Easy peasy.
Well, it’s far more complex than that, but so easy to learn and pick up that you can play without ever reading a manual or tutorial. Plants vs Zombies 2 is one of those rare breeds: A genuinely fresh and unique idea executed exceptionally well.
There are hundreds of hours of entertainment here – More than worth its price tag and almost certain to leave you wanting more!
As you play, you earn coins to use in a shop where you can buy various power-ups and new plants. This is another fresh idea: The randomness means that there’s a reason to keep playing. You’ll be motivated to upgrade your arsenal so that your next go will be more successful!
If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, Super Hexagon will give you a run for your money. Developed by Terry Cavanagh, Super Hexagon challenges you to maneuver your way through an endless series of obstacles.
Your goal is simple: don’t hit anything. It’s ridiculously addicting and there are plenty of levels with different themes.
And because it’s so tough, it forces you to pay attention to details—if you want to get good at it. Even once you master one level, there are five other very similar levels that follow suit—only much harder!
You can’t play it just once—you’ll have to play it multiple times before you finally feel like you got a handle on things. And that’s what makes Super Hexagon so addicting: you want to keep playing and improving your skills until you get good enough at it.
XCOM Enemy Within
A fantastic turn-based strategy game that’s unlike most other mobile strategy games out there. XCOM gives you full control over your squad of soldiers and aliens, letting you make real-time decisions on when to shoot, move or use special abilities like jetpacks.
Just make sure you watch your alien opponents—they’re smart and get better at what they do over time! There are tons of missions in the story mode, making XCOM well worth its $10 price tag. A great choice if you’re looking for a challenging strategy game.
While you can play XCOM offline, it’s still a social game and has a ton of replay value thanks to its multiplayer mode. It comes with six missions that you can play with friends or strangers, giving players loads of opportunities to battle against different teams.
XCOM is one of our favorite mobile strategy games, so give it a shot if you’re looking for something new!
With strategy game king Civilization VI, you can rediscover how it feels to build an empire from scratch. The latest instalment in the long-running series of 4X games is a blend of what you know and what developer Fir axis thinks would work well.
There’s a lot going on under Civilization VI’s hood, and newcomers may need some help working up to its complexity. Fortunately, there are plenty of community-made mods out there to take care of that problem.
And if you’re more interested in conquering than building, try its modern counterpart Civilization: Beyond Earth.
If you’re tired of seeing platformers and runners in our list, it’s time to get excited about a good old fashioned puzzle game. Maze Machina has all of that and more! Guide your ball through different puzzles by navigating through labyrinths with moving obstacles.
It’s one of our favorite puzzle games available on mobile. It features a simple interface and intuitive controls that make it easy to get into and start playing right away. It also has some cool features like an in-game level editor that lets you share your own levels with other players.
If you’re looking for a good old fashioned puzzle game that’s fun to play by yourself or with friends, check out Maze Machina today!
If you’re looking for a game with a light-hearted tone, Stardew Valley is an ideal choice. It’s played from an overhead view, like many classic farming simulators, and tasks players with restoring a derelict farm to its former glory by completing small-scale objectives such as planting crops and befriending villagers.
There are no enemies or battles to fight in Stardew Valley, so it’s a great game to play if you want to relax after work.
Grand Mountain Adventure
An open-world game that lets you play as a mountain and build towns, roads, and bridges. What makes it unique is that it gives players total control over what they build by letting them manipulate blocks with just a click of a mouse.
A physics engine also keeps everything running smoothly. The real appeal of Grand Mountain Adventure is how it forces players to think strategically since different materials can be strong or weak depending on where they’re placed.
This game is entirely free and can be downloaded on your phone by visiting Google Play.
Unfortunately, there’s no multiplayer mode available so you won’t be able to build a civilization alongside other players, but you can still enjoy working your way up in different environments and challenges.
This game may take a bit to get used to if you aren’t familiar with its gameplay style, but it’s also entirely customizable and will keep you entertained even when other games have grown boring.
